The Good News
Before I get to the good news I have to tell you about the bad news…
The world around us is broken.
I’m sure you feel it too. Illness, death, broken relationships, and many other difficult situations, make it hard to see any good sometimes. This isn’t how God designed our world to be.
When God designed our world He created a perfect world that allowed us to be in perfect relationship with Him (Genesis 1–2). We were created in God’s image to bring Him glory…but that wasn’t enough for man. The first humans, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God and brought sin into our world after Satan tempted them (Genesis 3). They wanted the power to be their own god.
We all try to be our own god anytime our thoughts or actions aren’t in line with God’s perfect will. That means we are all incapable of living a perfect life to keep us in perfect relationship with God (Romans 3:23). To repair our relationship with God, our sins need to be paid for, but the cost of our sins is death (Romans 6:23). That’s means we can’t erase our sins by doing good things. That’s the bad news.
But remember there’s good news!
Jesus Christ, who is fully man and fully God, was sent to Earth to live the perfect life that we aren’t able to, and to give up His life to pay for our sins (John 3:16). You may be wondering why His death is good news…
He lived the perfect life so His death paid for the sins of those who acknowledge their need of Jesus as their Savior. Also, by the power of the Holy Spirit, He conquered death! Jesus isn’t dead anymore. He is alive! His tomb is empty, so we can have confidence that when we accept Christ’s payment for our sins, we will live with Him forever in heaven (Romans 6:4).
You can read more in depth about who God is by reading through the Bible, but the bottom line is this: someone will pay the price for your sin. If you humble yourself and accept Christ’s payment, then you will receive eternal life. If you choose to pay the price yourself, Scripture says you will pay with eternal punishment and death, and will be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15).
Our world is broken now, but it won’t stay that way. One day God will make everything new, and when He does, it will be too late to accept Christ’s payment. We don’t know exactly when that will be, so if you feel a tug to give Christ control of your life, do not wait!
